Salem, OR – The Salem Fire Department recently completed annual live fire recertification training for Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting personnel at the Dallas-Fort Worth Fire Training Research Center, one of the leading aircraft firefighting training facilities in the industry.
According to fire officials, the specialized training is required annually for all Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) personnel and is designed to prepare firefighters for complex emergencies involving aircraft incidents and rescues.
During the training, Salem firefighters participated in multiple live fire scenarios simulating real-world aircraft emergencies. Exercises included handline and fire apparatus operations, fuel fire suppression using foam and dry chemical agents, aircraft engine and landing gear fires, and interior cabin fire attack situations involving victim searches and rescues.
Officials said the hands-on training allows firefighters to sharpen skills needed to respond quickly and effectively in high-risk airport environments where aircraft fires can escalate rapidly.
Members of the Salem Fire Department also trained alongside personnel from the Kamloops Airport Fire Department in British Columbia, Canada. The joint training provided firefighters from both departments an opportunity to exchange techniques, operational experience, and emergency response strategies related to aircraft rescue operations.
The Dallas-Fort Worth Fire Training Research Center is internationally recognized for providing advanced ARFF instruction to firefighters from across the world, offering realistic live fire environments and specialized aviation emergency training programs.
Salem fire officials said the recertification exercises help ensure personnel remain fully prepared to respond to aircraft emergencies and continue meeting national aviation firefighting standards.
