Salem, OR – The City of Salem highlighted the ongoing partnership between Salem-Keizer Public Schools and the Salem Public Library, recognizing efforts aimed at increasing student access to reading resources and literacy programs throughout the school year.
According to school officials, the Salem Public Library provided more than 1,000 library cards to first-grade students during the academic year, helping expand access to books, educational materials, and library services for young readers and their families.
Library staff also visited 25 elementary schools through the library’s Bookmobile program, bringing books and reading opportunities directly to students across the district. Officials said the outreach effort helped strengthen literacy engagement and encouraged students to develop reading habits outside the classroom.
In addition to the Bookmobile visits, the Salem Public Library supported students through its Reading Buddies Program, which focuses on helping children build reading confidence and improve literacy skills through guided support and mentorship.
School district officials praised the partnership for creating meaningful connections with students and helping children feel supported through educational and community-based programs centered around reading.
The collaboration between the school district and the library system was recognized as an example of how community partnerships can positively impact student learning and access to educational opportunities.
