Salem, OR – The Salem Fire Department recognized multiple personnel updates and achievements during a recent department ceremony, highlighting new hires, promotions, and leadership transitions.

Officials said four new paramedics have joined the department and are now serving in the field while training alongside experienced staff. The department described the additions as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen emergency medical response.

The department also announced the promotion of Captain Kehrer to Battalion Chief, where he will lead North Battalion operations and oversee emergency response on the north side of the city.

In addition, Salem Fire welcomed two new deputy chiefs to its leadership team. Chief Walker will oversee training operations, while Chief Boughey will oversee EMS operations. Officials said both bring extensive experience to their roles.

The department also recognized Deputy Chief Kyle Amsberry for his decades of service, leadership, and dedication to the city. He was honored by the fire chief with a challenge coin and formal recognition for his contributions to the department and community.
