Salem, OREGON – The Salem Police Department announced the arrest of a Salem woman accused of being connected to multiple theft investigations dating back to late 2025.
According to police, 39-year-old Sara Maria Guzman-Staff was arrested on May 12 in connection with a series of shoplifting incidents reported between December 2025 and May 2026.
Investigators said the cases were initially handled through the department’s Telephone Reporting Office, which reviews reports submitted through Salem Police’s online reporting system. Telephone Reporting Specialists reportedly connected the incidents by reviewing evidence provided by retailers.
Police said Guzman-Staff was later identified as a person of interest before officers conducted additional follow-up investigation that confirmed her as the suspect in four theft cases.
Officials said officers later located Guzman-Staff driving a vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. During the stop, police said she was found in possession of methamphetamine.
She was arrested on multiple charges related to the theft investigations and unlawful possession of methamphetamine before being lodged at the Marion County Jail.
The department credited the coordination between the Telephone Reporting Office and patrol officers for helping investigators connect the cases and make the arrest.
Police also encouraged residents to continue reporting criminal activity, noting that community reports can help investigators identify patterns and solve multiple cases.
