Will Bozeman Have a White Christmas This Year?

BOZEMAN, Mont. – Bozeman has been experiencing temperatures that are much warmer than usual this year, and that has a lot of people wondering if we’ll have a white Christmas.

Looking ahead at the forecast, there isn’t much snow predicted for the Bozeman area, and it’s not really possible to get an accurate projection for Christmas due to the fact that it’s still more than two weeks away.

On Tuesday, Weather Channel Meteorologist Ari Sarsalari explained what areas of the country are most likely to have a white Christmas this year, and while we don’t have much snow in the forecast for Bozeman in the near future, that doesn’t mean we won’t have snow on the ground at Christmas time.

Sarsalari says that people living in the northern states will have the highest chance of having a white Christmas this, but clarifies that we’re a little too far out right now to get an accurate forecast.

Historically, Bozeman has a very high chance of having a white Christmas. The map below were created from historical data from NOAA’S National Climatic Data Center (NCDC).

It reflects the normal chance, or probability, of a white Christmas based on data from the 1981-2010 three-decade averages. A white Christmas is defined as having 1 inch or more of snow on the ground Christmas morning. The graphics provide a general sense of the likelihood of a white Christmas.
