Salem, OR – The Salem Police Department emphasized its commitment to officer training, highlighting its team of Jiu-Jitsu instructors who help prepare recruits for real-world situations.

According to the department, its instructors bring a wide range of experience, including belt ranks from blue to brown and up to 20 years of individual training in martial arts.

Recruits at Salem PD receive 80 hours of Advanced Academy Defensive Tactics training, which includes a dedicated week focused on ground fighting techniques designed to prepare officers for field encounters.

Officials said the in-house program is intended to strengthen officer readiness and ensure personnel are equipped with practical defensive skills.

The department also encouraged applicants to consider a career in law enforcement, noting opportunities for physical training, community service, teamwork, and personal development.
