Salem, OR – A Salem Fire Department deputy fire marshal helped alert crews to a smoke incident after spotting a large black column of smoke while returning home from a prior fire response, according to the Salem Fire Department.
Officials said the deputy fire marshal turned around and radioed in the fire, allowing apparatus to be dispatched quickly to the scene.
Upon arrival, crews found a trash fire that was brought under control without incident.
The department said the situation was quickly handled and resulted in no reported complications.
Salem Fire Department emphasized its around-the-clock readiness, noting its personnel are available 24/7/365 to respond to emergencies.
