Salem, OR – Salem police are investigating a fatal vehicle versus bicycle collision that occurred on April 6, 2026, at approximately 4:36 p.m. at the intersection of Pringle Road and Madrona Avenue SE, according to a media release from the Salem Police Department.

When officers arrived, emergency medical personnel pronounced a 54-year-old Salem man deceased at the scene. The Salem Police Traffic Team responded and led the investigation, and the intersection was closed for nearly four hours.

Preliminary findings indicate a utility work van driven by a 27-year-old man was stopped at a red light while traveling northbound on Pringle Road SE. When the light turned green, the driver turned right onto Madrona Avenue SE.

At the same time, the bicyclist was traveling northbound in the bicycle lane on the east side of Pringle Road SE, continued forward, and fell to the ground before being struck by the van.

Authorities said the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

The Salem Police Department noted this was the fourth fatal collision resulting in four deaths in 2026. The investigation remains ongoing and has been referred to the Marion County District Attorney’s Office.
