Salem, OR – The Salem Police Department is investigating a stabbing that occurred late on March 20, 2026, in a parking lot along the 3200 block of Liberty Road S.
Officers responded at approximately 10:23 p.m. to reports of a disturbance and fight. Upon arrival, they contacted two individuals involved, identified as 45-year-old Jason Alberts of Salem and a 19-year-old man who was found with multiple injuries, including apparent stab wounds.
The injured man was transported to Salem Hospital, where he was treated for life-threatening injuries. Authorities later reported that the victim survived and was in stable condition.
Investigators determined that prior to the altercation, the victim had been yelling and damaging property in the area before being confronted by Alberts, which led to the physical fight.
Detectives with the department’s Violent Crimes Unit responded to assist with the investigation. Alberts was detained at the scene and later arrested. He was lodged at the Marion County Correction Facility on a charge of Assault in the First Degree.
Alberts is scheduled to be arraigned at 2:30 p.m. at the Marion County Annex on Aumsville Highway.
The case remains under investigation, and officials said further inquiries should be directed to the Marion County District Attorney’s Office.
